This Privacy Policy explains what information The Red Pistachio (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects when you visit theredpistachio.com (the “Site”), how we use it, and the choices you have. The Red Pistachio is an educational blog based in the United States that covers using AI, dealing with fast tech change, health and wellness, and financial health. If you have questions, email us at thepistachioteam@gmail.com.
By using the Site, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Comments. If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address, and website (optional) you enter, the comment itself, your IP address, and your browser’s user agent string. These help us manage the conversation and catch spam.
- Emails you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write.
- Email signups (future). We may offer a free newsletter or downloadable resources in the future. If you sign up, we will collect your email address and possibly your first name. These signups may be handled by a third-party email provider, which will store your details on our behalf. Every email we send will include a way to unsubscribe.
- Quizzes and free tools. Some pages may offer self-check quizzes or similar tools. Unless a tool clearly asks for your email, answers are processed in your browser to show your result and are not sent to us or stored by us.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Our host, Hostinger, automatically records basic technical data when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages requested, referring page, and the date and time of your visit. This is standard for keeping a website secure and running.
- Caching. We use LiteSpeed caching to make pages load faster. Caching stores copies of our pages on the server. It may set small technical cookies (for example, to tell whether you are logged in or have left a comment) so you see the right version of a page.
- Cookies. See the cookies section below.
- Analytics. We may use Google Analytics or a similar analytics service to understand how visitors use the Site, such as which pages are popular and how people find us. These services use cookies or similar technology to collect information like pages viewed, time on page, approximate location (city or country level), device, and browser. We use this information in aggregate to improve the Site. You can learn how Google uses this data at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, and you can opt out of Google Analytics with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
We do not ask for, and ask you not to send us, sensitive information such as medical records, Social Security numbers, bank or card numbers, or passwords.
How we use information
- To run, maintain, secure, and improve the Site
- To display and moderate comments and filter spam
- To reply to your emails and requests
- To send emails you signed up for, if you choose to subscribe in the future
- To understand which content is useful, using analytics in aggregate
- To show advertising, if we add ads in the future (see below)
- To follow the law and protect our rights and the safety of our readers
We do not sell your personal information. We do not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising as defined by California law, except as described in the advertising section if we add ads in the future, and you can opt out as explained there.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files a website stores in your browser. We and our service providers may use:
- Essential cookies, which help the Site work, remember comment details if you ask us to, and support caching and security
- Analytics cookies, which help us count visits and see how the Site is used
- Advertising cookies (future), which may be used to show and measure ads
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Most browsers also let you block third-party cookies. If you block cookies, some parts of the Site may not work as expected.
Advertising and Google’s use of cookies
We do not currently show ads on the Site. In the future we may use Google AdSense or other advertising partners. If we do, the following applies:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info and, in the EU, at www.youronlinechoices.eu.
- If other third-party vendors or ad networks serve ads on the Site, we will list them here with links to their own opt-out pages.
To learn how Google uses information when you visit sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Where required by law, such as for visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, we will ask for your consent before using non-essential cookies.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on the Site may include embedded content, such as posts from X (formerly Twitter) or videos from YouTube. Embedded content behaves the same way as if you visited the other website directly. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, add third-party tracking, and track your interaction with the embedded content, especially if you are logged in to an account there. Please review their privacy policies:
Where available, we may use privacy-enhanced embed options, such as YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode.
Links to other websites
The Site links to other websites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Please read their policies before giving them any information.
Affiliate links disclosure
We do not currently use affiliate links. In the future, some links on the Site may be affiliate links. That means if you click one and buy something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. In line with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines, we will clearly disclose affiliate links on any page that uses them. Affiliate partners may use cookies to track that a purchase came from our link. We only recommend products or services we believe may be useful, and our opinions are our own.
Who we share information with
We only share information as needed to run the Site, such as with:
- Our web host (Hostinger) and site software providers
- Analytics providers, if used
- Anti-spam services that may check comments
- An email newsletter provider, if we offer signups in the future
- Advertising partners, if we show ads in the future, as described above
- Authorities, when required by law or to protect our rights, our readers, or the public
These providers may only use your information to provide their services to us or as described in their own privacy policies.
How long we keep information
- Comments and their related data are kept until the comment is deleted, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
- Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to answer you and for reasonable record keeping.
- Newsletter data (future) is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Server logs and analytics data are kept for limited periods set by our host and analytics provider.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, including an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, updated software, and secure hosting. No method of sending or storing data on the internet is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we have about you and get a copy of it
- Ask us to correct information that is wrong
- Ask us to delete your personal information
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, or of targeted advertising
- Withdraw consent you gave earlier, such as for email signups or cookies
- Object to or limit certain uses of your information
- File a complaint with your local data protection authority (for EEA and UK visitors)
California residents. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), you have the rights listed above. We do not sell personal information, and we will not treat you differently for using your privacy rights.
Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland. We process personal data based on your consent (for example, non-essential cookies and newsletter signups), our legitimate interests (running, securing, and improving the Site and moderating comments), and legal obligations. Our service providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, they use safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
How to make a request. Email thepistachioteam@gmail.com with the subject line “Privacy Request” and tell us what you would like us to do. To delete a comment, include the email address you used and the page it was on. We may need to confirm your identity before acting. We aim to respond within 30 days, and within any shorter or longer timeline the law in your area sets. To stop newsletter emails (future), use the unsubscribe link in any email.
Children’s privacy
The Site is meant for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please email us and we will delete it. Visitors in the EEA must be at least 16, or the age of digital consent in their country, to give us personal data.
Do Not Track
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is no common standard for how websites should respond to it, so the Site does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add a newsletter, ads, or new tools. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If changes are significant, we may also post a notice on the Site. Please check this page now and then.
